Jane, thanks for continuing to inspire the children, teachers and parents with your knowledge and love of the outdoors. As wonderful as the "information age" is, we are a country at-risk of losing sight of the very simpliest form of pleasure and serenity...the outdoors. Your Field Guide to Your Schoolyard(No Student Left Indoors) occasionally sits tattered on my bookshelf. The majority of the time, it is on loan to one of my teachers! Plant Explore made the right choice by selecting you are one of their outstanding visionaries.

I think your "Take a Walk" book series is fantastic and am pleased that I had a chance to contribute a tiny amount to one of them when I worked for the American Littoral Society, a national coastal conservation group. I now work for an arboretum and we are also dedicated to connecting children to nature through hands-on environmental education and books like yours are a great help. Jane, Its wonderful seeing your work recognized. It is exciting knowing how this began from a simple idea of letting kids know that there is so much out there for them to learn about and enjoy. It also doesn't surprise me since I see how well you relate to our neighborhood kids, and they to you.

Jane - city girl - what's a bird? That was in 1994. Now Jane - through an amazing journey of her own - shares it with so many other people - in an enthusiastic yet not overpowering manner. Take a Walk with Jane, or anyone to see how much there is just outside of our window - be it on ledge of a skyscraper - the school yard - our beautiful Fairmount Park - or - anywhere!
