1. What is PlanetExplore?
- PlanetExplore is an online community designed to help individuals and families learn about and participate in outdoor activities and events in their area
- PlanetExplore is a portal to the outdoors, designed to inspire and enable people of all ages to become regularly active outside and to develop the benefits gained through a connection to nature.
2. Who can join PlanetExplore?
- Anyone can join as an individual member, able to create their own profile, receive email updates on events going on in their selected region, and connect with other likeminded enthusiasts.
- Inclusive groups that inspire people to get outdoors. This serves as a place where partners can upload events, utilize over 182 social media sites connected to PlanetExplore, upload videos, blogs and photos.
3. What can you do on PlanetExplore?
- Using PlanetExplore you can find local outdoor events and receive updates based on your selected criteria.
- Explore local parks and outdoor spaces using our Urban Nature Guides
- Be inspired by our partners’ blogs, videos and podcasts.
- Learn how to get outdoors by using the great resources posted on PlanetExplore by our 100 plus partners.
4. How does PlanetExplore differ from other social networking sites?
- PlanetExplore is event-driven and outdoor-focused
- We are working to bring communities and nonprofit groups together to help enable people of all ages to get outside.
- This is a community-based site we hope will serve as a “virtual community board,” where people can find activities, organizations and events occurring in their region.
5. Why does PlanetExplore only focus on certain activities?
- We focus on human-powered activities because they are at the heart of “who” The North Face is and best define our brand heritage.
- Because there are so many great sports and outdoor activities from which to choose, we decided to narrow our focus our during the site’s initial launch to better serve our members.
6. How do I find an event near me?
- To find local events, simply click the “Events” page from the PlanetExplore homepage.
- From there, click on the “Search Event” tool and enter all required fields.
7. What do I do if I cannot find any events near me?
- If you have trouble locating an event close to you, it may be that there simply isn’t one in your area…YET! PlanetExplore is working hard every day to add new partners and events to the Website. You may want to try expanding your search radius using the “Search Event” tool.
8. Who are Visionaries?
- Our Visionaries are leaders in the movement to re-connect children to nature and outdoor experiences. Members can visit our “Visionary” section to learn about new findings, read interesting articles, and keep up on what the leaders in our outdoor movement are doing. We hope that you gain as much inspiration from them as we have!
9. What are Urban Nature Guides?
- The North Face is very well known for exploring the back country, but we wanted to take our love for adventure and exploration to the "front country." There's no limit to the natural wonders within city limits. We have worked closely with the Trust for Public Land to create an interactive map of some of our favorite parks and outdoor spaces. Urban Nature Guides provide the ability to find easily accessible places to get outdoors, receive current weather forecasts, see pictures and more!
10. How does my organization qualify to become a PlanetExplore Partner?
- Partners, as referred to within the context of PlanetExplore, are regional organizations (hand picked by The North Face) that we believe will help long-term growth of The North Face brand by focusing on youth-friendly programs and increasing outdoor participation for all age groups. Our Partners will meet the following criteria:
- 501(c)(3) organization
- Can provide point person to administer information on PE site.
- Group must be responsible for updating & keeping pages current
- Host actionable events, and provide relevant resources, that fit within the framework of PE’s mission
11. What is 501(c)(3) status?
- A subsection under the United States Internal Revenue Code. The subsection relates to non-profit organizations and tax law and identifies which non-profit organizations are exempt from paying federal income tax. 501(c)(3) organizations are corporations, funds or foundations that operate for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes.
12. How do I register to become a PlanetExplore member?
- From the PlanetExplore homepage you can become a member by clicking either “Register” or “Create Account.”
- Provide your full name, email address, desired username and password and your registration is complete!
13. How do I edit my membership profile?
- First, you must be logged in.
- Then click the “Edit Profile” link under your membership photo and you will have access to edit your profile.
14. How do I sign in to PlanetExplore?
- You can sign in by entering your registered username and password on the PlanetExplore homepage.
15. What if I forget my password?
- Don’t worry. You can reset your password by clicking here.
16. What do I do if I forgot my user name?
- No worries here, either. Just click here and we’ll send it to you.
17. What’s the relationship between Facebook Connect and PlanetExplore?
- Facebook Connect allows you to interact with your friends on the PlanetExplore Website as well as share information about PlanetExplore’s latest news, events and Facebook partners through your Wall and friends’ News Feeds!
18. How can I report abuse or misuse of the PlanetExplore site or its members?
- Any abuse or misuse of the PlanetExplore site will not be tolerated. Please contact us, via our “Contact Page” and explain the issue at hand. We will investigate and resolve the issue immediately.
19. Will PlanetExplore send me spam or promotional emails that clog my inbox?
- NO! When you sign up as a member, you will be able to choose your preferences for the region, activities and organizations about which you want to be emailed .
- You can choose the frequency that you receive emails: weekly, daily or in real time
20. Is PlanetExplore just another site for The North Face to sell its products?
- No! At The North Face we really believe that to live happy healthy lives people need to get outdoors. PlanetExplore is not meant to be a place to push The North Face products but to “sell” people on the benefits of outdoor activities. We have created a place for people to go where they can learn about events and activities in their community that inspire them to Never Stop Exploring™.
- We at The North Face love the outdoors. It's in our DNA and it defines us as a company. That passion and our desire to share it is the catalyst behind PlanetExplore. Our collective goal is to inspire the next generation of enthusiasts and increase outdoor participation among people of all ages.
