Project Information: Volunteers will help construct three hundred feet of boardwalk to connect remote campsites to Buck Hall campground, where campers can easily access the bathhouse. The site will have been cleared and pilings put in place: this project is the construction of the spans and planks of the boardwalk.
Area Description: The project site is along the intracoastal waterway, next to the picturesque fishing village of McClellanville. The Low Country is flat, with tidal creeks, marshes, maritime forest and bays. Ten miles inland is the endangered longleaf pine forest. You can spend your free time birding, angling, kayaking, and hiking, and try some of the best seafood you ever ate! Francis Marion National Forest is near Charleston SC, a city full of antebellum charm and neighboring the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge. Volunteers will stay at Palmetto Plantation, a 700 acre family owned tract, in a delighful two story vacation house.
Climate Information: Winters here are mild, sunny with mixed showers – and no bugs. Daytime temperatures range from 50 to 75 degrees, and nights are 35 to 50 degrees.
