New friends,
On behalf of Bay Area Wilderness Training, I am pleased to introduce you to BAWT’s mission to create opportunities for urban, at-risk youth to experience the transformative power of wilderness first hand . Thorough our “train the trainer” model we have been able to exponentially increase the number of youth we serve annually--in 2006 we reached 862 youth and in 2009 our goal was to serve 2,500, the actual number reached 3,021.
We have been able to reach these youth through the variety of services we offer.
These are comprised of our youth worker training programs:
- Wilderness Leadership Training
- Frontcountry Leadership Training
- Camping at the Presidio
and our support programs:
- Equipment loans
- BAWT mobile van loan program
- Mini-Grants program
We invite you to join us in our mission to get at-risk youth outdoors in whatever capacity you can--raise awareness, volunteer, or help us fund raise-- While we are best known for having helped over 10,000 youth get outdoors on life-affirming wilderness trips, we do the same for adults. Want the experience of a lifetime? Join us on one of our Climbing For Kids fundraising climbs. Climb a peak , get $1,500 worth of gear to keep , and help support our programs .
Please check out our websites or contact us by phone or email if you have any questions or just want to say 'hello'. The BAWT team greatly appreciates your support and we look forward to expanding our programs and reaching more youth with your help.
Sincerely,
Kyle Macdonald
Founder and CEO
P.S. If you have not already, I encourage you to explore our Climbing For Kids website and see how an amazing experience for you can translate to upwards of 50 life-changing trips for urban, at-risk youth.
